It takes a special someone
To come ‘round day after day
To be with God’s special people
And help them along the way
To teach them all the simple things
They don’t know how to do
The things we take for granted
That are easy for me and you
Yet they have trouble learning
The basic things in life
To count to ten for some of them
Creates much mental strife
So easily they become upset
As attention span is short
To work and teach them day by day
It takes a special sort.
I’ve found here many chosen
To do these very things
To love and care so patiently
And accept strange happenings,
Some days they flow so smoothly by
And others… well, they’re worse
Everything seems to go as if
Someone has sent a curse.
But all in all I find it is
A very satisfying task
Full of trials, fun, and learning
And memories that last!
