Ode to Troy

We became a new department, just the four of us
Were called Systems Alignment, we didn’t make a fuss
From Manager and Detail. Once a Keyer and a Reader
Such a fine group of folks. But alas, we had no leader.

Then one day we heard, of a man named K. Troy
He would be our new boss. We were filled with such joy
That would soon be replaced with questions and fear.
He lives so far away, why is he coming here?
What will he be like, will we work well together?
Will he like Colorado’s unpredictable weather?
Will he be a good leader or a tyrant to run from?
Tell me again, where it is that he comes from.
Does he laugh? Does he line-dance? Will we get along well?
Does he have a sense of humor? Just how will we tell
If he’ll laugh right along, or just tolerate us
Or just say, like some others, “Get on the bus!”

It’s been a year, since Troy came to our team
And then Melody joined us to help plan and scheme.
As we’ve learned to know Troy, we find there’s no doubt
That he does have strange habits we can’t figure out!

He does like the bookstore, goes there all the time
It was – let him go often, or else hear him whine.
And we taught him Skip-Bo, it really was neat
Until he found out, some of us tend to cheat.
Such an odd way he chose, to climb into his car
Then he drove it one day to a place not too far
To buy some cheap food, but what did he get?
Just one plain old burger, nearly put him in debt.
We found he liked orange – an odd color we thought
Yet out of respected, he was honored a lot
Soon we too believed, that his color was best
We even stooped gladly and wore orange vests!

And when he’s not out dodging hail, or the Cops
With his wife and 4 daughters, you’ll find he is tops!
Troy has settled a bit since his family came down
To join him right here in this interesting town.
It’s been fun. We’ve bonded. We did things for kicks
‘till Focus on the Family started FY96.
Now Troy sits in his office, goes to meetings, and has fears
Of the constant stream of people who come to him in tears.
They are working on their plans. So they come to get direction.
And Troy helps them out, clearing all misconception.
But he doesn’t let them go, until he’s had a chance to tease
So they leave his office feeling good and very much at ease.
Long days we’ve worked together, and Troy teases us a lot
Yet we see and feel and witness, that such caring can’t be bought.

And so Troy from Indiana, we think we’re glad you came
For this fine group of people will never be the same!
